Minecraft 26.3 "The Dappled Forest": Every New Item ID and Command Change
Minecraft 26.3 "The Dappled Forest" adds the dappled forest biome, a full poplar wood set (the 12th wood type), wool stairs and slabs in 16 colors, the shelf mushroom, red shrub, straw beds, cushions, and the abandoned camp structure. It also overhauls the /item command with new /item fill and /item override sub-commands, and adds /execute if|unless slots. This page lists every new item ID and copy-paste give command, updated after each snapshot and Bedrock preview build. Expected release: late September 2026.
What's new in 26.3 "The Dappled Forest"
Minecraft 26.3 is the third game drop of 2026. It centres on the dappled forest -- an autumn-themed biome found near cold biomes -- and introduces a new wood type (poplar), new decorative blocks (wool stairs, wool slabs, cushions), new nature blocks (shelf mushroom, red shrub), and a new survival item (straw bed). The abandoned camp is a new structure that generates across 18 biomes.
The update also includes the most significant /item command overhaul in years: new slot-source arguments, /item fill, and /item override sub-commands. The /execute command gains an if|unless slots condition.
Expected full release: late September 2026 (est. Sept 15-29). As of this writing, three Java snapshots and multiple Bedrock previews are available. This page is updated after every build.
Poplar wood set -- every /give command
Poplar is the 12th wood type. Its colour is a desaturated pale brown. The full set is available in both Java and Bedrock (confirmed parity). All IDs below work with /give on the stable 26.3 release; snapshot builds may vary slightly.
Natural blocks:
/give @s poplar_log /give @s stripped_poplar_log /give @s poplar_wood /give @s stripped_poplar_wood /give @s poplar_sapling
Poplar leaves come in three autumn colours. Each is a separate block ID:
/give @s red_poplar_leaves /give @s orange_poplar_leaves /give @s yellow_poplar_leaves
Crafted building blocks (all derived from poplar planks):
/give @s poplar_planks /give @s poplar_slab /give @s poplar_stairs /give @s poplar_fence /give @s poplar_fence_gate /give @s poplar_door /give @s poplar_trapdoor /give @s poplar_button /give @s poplar_pressure_plate /give @s poplar_sign /give @s poplar_hanging_sign /give @s poplar_shelf
Vehicles:
/give @s poplar_boat /give @s poplar_chest_boat
Wool stairs and slabs -- every /give command
Wool stairs and wool slabs come in all 16 dye colours. They dampen vibrations like regular wool and carpets, and they are not usable as furnace fuel. They are crafted from 3 matching wool to produce 6 stairs or slabs.
All 16 wool stair IDs:
/give @s white_wool_stairs /give @s orange_wool_stairs /give @s magenta_wool_stairs /give @s light_blue_wool_stairs /give @s yellow_wool_stairs /give @s lime_wool_stairs /give @s pink_wool_stairs /give @s gray_wool_stairs /give @s light_gray_wool_stairs /give @s cyan_wool_stairs /give @s purple_wool_stairs /give @s blue_wool_stairs /give @s brown_wool_stairs /give @s green_wool_stairs /give @s red_wool_stairs /give @s black_wool_stairs
All 16 wool slab IDs:
/give @s white_wool_slab /give @s orange_wool_slab /give @s magenta_wool_slab /give @s light_blue_wool_slab /give @s yellow_wool_slab /give @s lime_wool_slab /give @s pink_wool_slab /give @s gray_wool_slab /give @s light_gray_wool_slab /give @s cyan_wool_slab /give @s purple_wool_slab /give @s blue_wool_slab /give @s brown_wool_slab /give @s green_wool_slab /give @s red_wool_slab /give @s black_wool_slab
Dappled Forest nature blocks -- red shrub and shelf mushroom
Two new nature blocks generate in the dappled forest biome.
The red shrub is a bush-like decorative plant. It spreads with bone meal, is compostable, and can be found densely in dappled forests alongside patches of coarse dirt.
/give @s red_shrub
The shelf mushroom grows on poplar logs and fallen poplar logs. It comes in two sizes: the small variant grows to large with bone meal, and the large variant drops two shelf mushroom items when broken. Like beds, entities that land on a shelf mushroom bounce. It can be used in mushroom stew and suspicious stew, and is sold by wandering traders.
/give @s shelf_mushroom
Note: leaf litter is not new to 26.3 -- it is a pre-existing block that now generates around poplar trees in the dappled forest biome.
Snapshot 3 additions -- straw beds and cushions
Snapshot 3 (July 7, 2026) added two new items.
The straw bed lets you sleep through the night without setting your spawn point. It is single-use and destroyed after sleeping. It cannot be used in the Nether or End. Villagers do not claim or use straw beds. Note: as of Snapshot 3, the straw bed appears to be Java-only -- Bedrock parity has not been confirmed yet.
/give @s straw_bed
Cushions come in 16 colour variants and are crafted from a matching wool slab. They can be placed on any flat surface and are purely decorative.
/give @s white_cushion /give @s orange_cushion /give @s magenta_cushion /give @s light_blue_cushion /give @s yellow_cushion /give @s lime_cushion /give @s pink_cushion /give @s gray_cushion /give @s light_gray_cushion /give @s cyan_cushion /give @s purple_cushion /give @s blue_cushion /give @s brown_cushion /give @s green_cushion /give @s red_cushion /give @s black_cushion
Command syntax changes in 26.3
26.3 contains the largest command overhaul since the 1.20 update cycle. The changes affect /give, /execute, and /item.
/give error behaviour change
Previously, passing an item count above the stack limit would print an error message but fail silently. From 26.3, it signals a hard error -- command blocks and functions that relied on the old silent-fail behaviour will need to be updated.
/execute if|unless slots (new)
A new condition lets you check how many slots are present on a block or entity:
/execute if slots entity @s container.* run ... /execute unless slots block ~ ~ ~ container.0 run ...
This complements the existing /execute if items check. Use if slots to test whether a slot source exists; use if items to test what is in it.
/item command overhaul
The /item command now takes slot source arguments everywhere a slot was previously used. Two new sub-commands were added:
/item fill: repeats source items across destination slots until all are filled.
/item fill entity @s hotbar.* from entity @s container.0
/item override: replaces slots and clears any remaining destination slots when there are fewer source items than destination slots.
/item override entity @s hotbar.* from entity @s container.0
The slot string notation (e.g. armor.chest, container.*, hotbar.4) still works as before.
Abandoned Camp structure
The abandoned camp is a new structure that generates across 18 biomes, each variant using materials appropriate to that biome. It is the most widely distributed structure added since the trial chamber.
Biomes where abandoned camps generate: - bamboo jungle, birch forest, cherry grove, dappled forest, flower forest, forest - meadow, old growth birch forest, old growth pine taiga, old growth spruce taiga - savanna, pale garden, snowy taiga, sparse jungle, swamp, taiga, windswept forest, wooded badlands

Frequently asked questions
When does Minecraft 26.3 release?
Minecraft 26.3 "The Dappled Forest" is estimated to release in late September 2026 (est. Sept 15-29). There is no official date yet. Check this page for updates after each snapshot.
What is the dappled forest biome?
The dappled forest is an autumn-themed forest biome found near cold biomes. It generates poplar trees with red, orange, and yellow leaves; shelf mushrooms on the logs; patches of coarse dirt; red shrubs; leaf litter; brown mushrooms; and sparse spruce trees.
Do the new 26.3 item IDs work on Bedrock?
Most do. The poplar wood set, wool stairs/slabs, red shrub, shelf mushroom, and cushions are confirmed Java + Bedrock parity. The straw bed is currently Java-only as of Snapshot 3. This page notes Bedrock status for each item as the previews progress.
How do I get all poplar wood blocks with a command?
Use /give @s followed by the item ID -- for example, /give @s poplar_log 64. The full list of poplar IDs is in the Poplar wood set section above. All IDs follow the poplar_ prefix.
What changed in the /item command in 26.3?
The /item command gained two new sub-commands: /item fill (repeats source items to fill all destination slots) and /item override (replaces and clears remaining slots). It also now accepts slot source arguments, letting you target multiple slots in one command.
What is the abandoned camp structure?
The abandoned camp generates in 18 biomes -- the most widely distributed structure added to Minecraft in recent updates. Use /locate structure abandoned_camp to find the nearest one.
